Workshop Descriptions
• MLA Format and Citation: This workshop will cover MLA format as well as in-text citations and a Works Cited page. Visuals and hands-on activities will help students to perfect a college essay.
• Paraphrasing: Strategies and Practice: Students will learn to identify paraphrasing and use different paraphrasing strategies to paraphrase effectively.
• Paragraph Development: Students will learn different approaches to writing well-developed paragraphs, including topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences. We will explore various methods for organizing paragraphs, such as chronological, spatial, and logical
order, and discuss techniques for creating cohesive and coherent paragraphs. We will also cover common paragraphing errors and how to avoid them.
• Verb Tense Review: Students will review and practice with simple, progressive, and perfect verb tenses.
• Writing Effective Thesis Statements: Students will learn how to write clear, focused thesis statements (or topic sentences for paragraph writing) that effectively communicate their paper’s main argument. Together, we’ll break down the process of transforming broad topics into specific, arguable thesis statements through examples and practice.
• Pronunciation of the Final “ed”: Students will learn to produce the 3 different final “ed” sounds in words.
• Making Polite Requests: Learn polite ways to make requests with modals using correct grammar and expressions.
